There are many reasons why someone would want to limit the demographics of their site. Many types of content can be unfit for younger visitors to see. Sometimes, your website might involve an industry whose target audience is limited to adults. Age verification checks are even required by legal mandates in some cases. Fortunately, adding one for your site is not as hard as you might think. The simple solution to this problem is using a WordPress age verification plugin.
By using a plugin, the whole thing can be done in just a few easy steps. In this tutorial, we will be going over the process of adding an age verification to your WordPress site using a plugin.
1. Install a WordPress Age Verification Plugin
From the many options available, AgeVerify stands out by being effective and intuitive at the same time. It also does its job without hindering the SEO of your website and is responsive across all devices. Now let’s move towards adding the plugin.
First of all, navigate to the Add New subsection within the Plugins section through your admin sidebar. Once you are there, type in Ageverify in the search bar and wait for the results to show.
You should be able to find the plugin amongst the results without much difficulty. Click on the Install Now button and wait for a few moments while it installs. The button should now say ‘Activate’ once the installation is done. Just click on it and the plugin is ready to be used.
2. Enable AgeVerify from the settings
In order to enable AgeVerify for your site, go to the newly created AgeVerify section through your admin sidebar. Now simply change the On/Off switch to On. Once you do that, it will enable age verification for your site and asks new visitors to confirm that they are at least 18 before entering the site. If you feel that the default message and presentation is not fitting for your website, don’t worry. You can customize various elements from this very page.
3. Customize AgeVerify for your site
You can scroll down and find a number of different options to customize AgeVerify. There are a number of high-quality images that you can pick to be the background in your age verification page. You can either pick on that fits the theme of your site the best or leave it as a translucent overlay.
Below that, you can find the option to select the type of age verification. AgeVerify supports both, Button Prompt and Date of Birth Input. Button Prompt, which is pretty common, has the visitors press a button to confirm whether or not they are a certain age. Alternatively, you can have them manually enter their birth date. You can select whichever option you feel is best for you. After that, you can edit the message that pops up during the age verification. Just be sure to use </br> to create line breaks.
You can also change further details about your age verification screen. If you picked the Date of Birth Input, you have the option to choose the minimum age of entry below. You can also edit the placeholder text in the date selector so that it says whatever you want.
For the Button Prompt option, AgeVerify allows you to edit the text of the two buttons. Simply by changing the message, you can show a different minimum age of entry. Once you are done customizing everything to your liking, simply press the Save Changes button.
As you can see, AgeVerify is a very useful and convenient plugin if you are looking for a way to add age verification for your website. Alternatively, you can use other WordPress age verification plugins, such as Surbma | Age Verification Yes/No Popup and Age Gate. If you feel that AgeVerify is not for you, give them a chance.
As you can see, you can have an age verification check for your website in a hassle-free way. All you need to do is install a WordPress age verification plugin and you can create one for your site. AgeVerify allows you to build one that is not just effective but attractive looking as well.
