Pingbacks and Trackbacks are pretty useful tools for WordPress that often gets overlooked. Essentially, they are features that allow blogs to be notified when their content has been linked. When utilized well, they can be used to effectively build a network with other blogs and improve your SEO. But, if you enable Pingbacks for your site, you might also need to deal with Self Pingbacks. They occur when you link to your own content in an article. While ultimately harmless, they can be quite annoying to deal with. Disable Self Pingbacks without a Plugin
