How to Add a WordPress Video Slider: A Simple Guide for Beginners

Adding a WordPress Video Slider

In this tutorial, we are going to use the powerful Smart Slider 3 plugin. You will first have to install and activate the plugin. You can consult our article on installing WordPress plugins if you are confused as to how that is done. Once that is over with, you can move on to the next step.

From your Admin Dashboard, navigate to Smart Slider and click on ‘NEW SLIDER’.

It will cause a new window to pop up. Here, you can enter your name, width, as well as height, for your slider. This video slider WordPress plugin also allows you to select between a few presets underneath. Once you’re done with the details, just click on the Create button.

In this new page, you can add slides or scroll down to edit the various settings for your slider. In order to add a video, you will need to click on the large ‘ADD SLIDE’ button and click on Video. After that, enter the YouTube or Vimeo URL in the ‘Video url’ field. Once you’re done, click on ‘ADD VIDEO’ and you’re going to have this video as a slide. To add another video, just repeat this process.

This plugin also allows you to reorder all your slides easily through Drag and Drop. If you want to do more operations with a slide, just hover the cursor over it and click on small icon on the top right. From here, you can copy, duplicate, unpublish, delete or even set the slide as first.
Now you should scroll down and alter the various settings to fit your liking. Here, you can also play around with the various stylistic choices including the animation, size, design, etc.

In order to test how the slideshow looks, you can click on the ‘PREVIEW’ button on the top left. If you’re happy with everything, click on the ‘SAVE’ button on the top right.

To add your slider to a post or page, you can simply paste the shortcode. To find the shortcode for your slider, select the ‘PUBLISH’ tab underneath your slides and look under the Shortcode section.

You can also simply add a Gutenberg Block for Smart Slider 3, which can be found under the Common Blocks section. Now, you can easily select from the existing sliders from the block.

Now check how it looks on the front end and decide if you’re satisfied.
